Chalice Consort is a performer, a collaborator with global early music scholars and musicians, and a leading catalyst for discovering, transcribing, and making accessible undiscovered or rarely performed Renaissance and Baroque era choral pieces, to advance the knowledge and expand experiences of all students, scholars, and listeners of early music in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
The mission of Chalice Consort, the performer, is to present newly discovered or rarely heard music of the Renaissance and Baroque eras in exquisite ensemble through the use of pure tone to achieve mesmerizing phrasing, ethereal blend, and dulcet sound.
Chalice Consort's debut performance of Thomas Ashwell’s Missa Ave Maria was enthusiastically received by a full house at the SFEMS Fringe series of the 2008 Berkeley Festival & Exhibition. Find the full story of our beginnings here.
Chalice Consort has successfully performed its season opener last November 8th and 9th, 2008, and was honored to receive rave reviews from San Francisco Classical Voices about our performance: "Chalice Consort...took on the challenging task of presenting an all a cappella program of music from Renaissance Spain, and succeeded magnificently. I say 'magnificent' due to the chorus' consistently accurate tuning and the beautiful pure-voiced and appropriate choral tone of the soprano section." You can read the full review here.
Chalice Consort is made possible by the sponsorship of the San Francisco Early Music Society, along with generous contributions by individual donors and private foundations. We are grateful to the following individuals for being our first donors:
